Gernot Schmidt (* 1962 in Anklam , Neubrandenburg , East Germany ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and since 2005 District Administrator of the district Oderland in Brandenburg .

Life

Schmidt attended the polytechnic high school from 1969 to 1979 and then completed a three-year vocational training course with a high school diploma as an agricultural engineer . This was followed by basic military service in the NVA . From 1984 he worked as a forest worker and as a melioration worker until he joined the SPD in 1989 and went into politics in 1990.
From 1990 to 1999 he was press spokesman and personal advisor for the district administrators Albert Lipfert (SPD), Gunter Fritsch (SPD) and Jürgen Reinking (SPD) in the state of Brandenburgactive. At the same time Schmidt was honorary mayor of the municipality of Werbig from 1990 , after its incorporation in 2003 after Seelow local mayor in Werbig and member of the city ​​council of Seelow. In 1991 he also acquired the qualification for higher administrative service. Since 1999 Schmidt worked as the parliamentary group manager of the SPD parliamentary group. Schmidt is married and has one daughter.
