Gero Fischer (Slavist)

Gero Fischer (born December 24, 1944 in Lambach , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian Slavist .

Life

Gero Fischer studied Slavic Studies, economic and social history in Vienna, Prague and Skopje and graduated from the University of Vienna in 1968 with a degree in Slavic Studies . As part of a postgraduate degree in Prague, he then studied mathematical linguistics and oriental languages. From 1970 he was an assistant at the Institute for Slavic Studies at the University of Vienna.

In 1975 he completed his habilitation in mathematical linguistics and in 1977 in Slavic linguistics. Fischer teaches at the University of Vienna and has been the head of the study program for the subjects of Fen Studies , Hungarology , Scandinavian Studies and Slavic Studies since 2004 .

In 1999 Fischer founded the gallery on the Pawlatsche , where a variety of exhibitions have taken place since then.

In recent times, Fischer has repeatedly taken a critical stance on the effects of the so-called Bologna Process at universities. a. also because, in his opinion, Slavic Studies as a subject is extremely negatively affected.

Focus

His focus areas are bohemian studies , sociolinguistics , language politics , language didactics , as well as migrants, minorities, language didactics, Thai grammar, language and cybernetics, mathematical linguistics, as well as new media, economic and social history, documentary photography.
