Gert-Ulrich Buurman

Gert-Ulrich Everhard Friedrich Buurman (born April 21, 1936 in Bremen ; † February 23, 2013 in Marburg ) was a German educator, entrepreneur and boarding school director.

Life

Gert-Ulrich Buurman was the son of the pedagogue Gerhard Hermann Buurman (1904–1987) and his wife, the riding instructor Annaliese Martha. He had four siblings. Gert-Ulrich Buurman studied at the Ruprecht-Karls University Heidelberg Sports and English to teachers . In 1956 he became a member of the Vineta Heidelberg fraternity .

Landschulheim Steinmühle

From 1965 to 1999, as his father's successor, he managed the boarding school of the Steinmühle country school home , where he had previously worked as a teacher.

Buurman was interested in improving language training through the use of modern learning methods. In 1965 he wrote an article for the 2nd edition of the magazine Programmed Lern ​​und Programmierter Studium (successor magazine : Programmed Learning ) with the title A Design for the Construction of a Language Laboratory . 1974 Buurman was at the University of Marburg with the theme Empirical study of imitation performance ten-year students in English classes beginning with sonagraphischer procedures to Dr. phil. PhD. As a sports teacher, he also strongly advocated the rowers who competed in the rowing department RuSV Steinmühle eV . He also promoted horse riding and tennis.

In 1982 he was able to realize his father's plans to generate the electricity for the country school home primarily through the use of water power at the weir of the stone mill. For this purpose he founded the Wasserkraftwerk Steinmühle GmbH . His brother Frerich Buurman took over the management in September 2013 and has been the company's liquidator since April 2015 .

Country school home Grovesmühle

After extensive refurbishment and renovation measures, Buurman reopened the Grovesmühle school home in August 1995 . Immediately at the beginning of the planning for a new school building, Buurman died after a serious illness. The foundation stone of the building named after him was laid in mid-2013.

His marriage to Gisela Kurz had two children. His son Gerrit Buurman was the managing director of the operating company of the Grovesmühle country school home.

Honors
