Gertrud Klihm

Gertrud Klihm (born April 12, 1883 in Düsseldorf , † October 27, 1961 in Wickendorf ) was a German set designer , painter and book illustrator .

life and work

Klihm studied at the Düsseldorf Art College , was a student of Wilhelm Eckstein and became a member of the artist group Das Junge Rheinland . From 1907 to 1918 she worked as a set designer and on the artistic advisory board of the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus under Louise Dumont and Gustav Lindemann . There she met the writer Hans Franck , who brought her to Frankenhorst near Wickendorf / Schwerin as a work companion . From then on she worked there as a freelance artist and book illustrator. She maintained numerous personal contacts and friendships with artists such as Ernst Barlach , Christian Rohlfs , Heinrich Heuser , Eberhard Viegener , Carl Emil Uphoff and Fritz Uphoff as well as Otto Pankok . Her nude models mainly included the actress and wife Eberhard Viegeners, Cecilia Brie (who was first married to the actor Paul Henckels until 1920 ), as well as the Düsseldorf dancer and dance teacher Hilda Senff. In 1924, works by Gertrud Klihm were exhibited at Johanna Ey .
