Society for Art and Design

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Society for Art and Design (gkg) is a non-profit association of artists, architects, designers and citizens in Bonn .

Goal setting

The purpose of the association is to develop, carry out and promote activities in the field of art and design at local, national and international level. In keeping with the corresponding traditions since the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the association is dedicated to general cultural-political issues, but in particular issues relating to the shaping of the human environment through urban development , architecture , design and environmental protection . According to the founding statute of 1982, artistic and creative endeavors since 1945 with constructive, concrete and rational aspects are to be taken into account.

history

The origins of the Society for Art and Design lie in the activities of the gallery owner Hajo Schütze, who saw his Galerie Schütze in Bad Godesberg, founded in 1961, as a forum for artists, architects, psychologists and sociologists. This working group should discuss the penetration of all areas of life with art in the sense of constructivism and implement corresponding projects. Although Schützes death ended the initiative in 1967, other projects developed from the gallery area.

In 1971, artists joined forces in Bonn to form a national “Working Group for Constructive Design”. In the same year, the Bonn artist and art promoter Marianne Pitzen founded the Circulus gallery, which also showed concrete art . In 1982, some people interested in art founded the Society for Art and Design as an exhibition and discussion forum and documentation center for specific forms of art and design. At the same time, Marianne Pitzen handed over the rooms of the Circulus gallery, which had been managed from an economic point of view, to the newly founded "Society", which began its exhibition on September 15, 1983 with an exhibition on prints by Leo Breuer .

Since the beginning of 1987, the company has been based in rooms on August-Macke-Platz at Bonner Hochstadenring 22-24 in the immediate vicinity of the Bonner Kunstverein and the Artists' Forum.

Andreas Denk has been chairman of the association since 2015 .
