Design and media technology

Design and media technology is a profile subject at technical high schools in Baden-Württemberg , Rhineland-Palatinate , Schleswig-Holstein and Berlin. The profile subject, divided into three subject sections, is taught for six hours and is a compulsory subject for the Abitur examination . The three subjects are mostly GMT (design and media technology), AGMT (applied design and media technology) and computer technology. The curriculum includes the sub-areas of media design , product design and design history.

Content

The profile subject of design and media technology conveys basic knowledge in the fields of media and design over three school years. More specifically, it can be divided into three sub-areas: media design, product design and design history. In addition, the necessary software and hardware knowledge is imparted in the subject of computer technology and the theory lessons are applied in practice in AGMT.

Basic knowledge of all epochs of craftsmanship and early industrial design as well as design trends in the 20th century.

Goal setting

The aim of the design and media technology profile is to work out the common design principles of the areas of product and media design as well as communication design and photography that tend to exist side by side in practice . In this way, the students acquire skills that enable them to understand the conceptual working methods of the design disciplines and thus ensure a propaedeutic approach to science.
