The Johannes Gutenberg School (short: JGS ) is a commercial school in Stuttgart - Bad Cannstatt .

The school is one of the largest vocational schools for printing and media professions in Europe.

history

The beginnings of the school go back to 1903. At the beginning the school consisted of two workshop rooms in a former prison. In 1911 the move to a new school building followed. In 1961, due to a lack of space, the higher technical school moves into a new building on Hallschlag , the vocational school remains at its previous location and receives an extension. In 1963 the higher technical school becomes independent and receives engineering school status. The master school is then decoupled from the higher technical school and converted into a one-year full-time school of the vocational school. Due to the high number of students, additional branch offices are being set up. In 1969 it is decided to build a new building for the commercial vocational and technical college for the graphic professions at the current location in Hallschlag. The school was given its current name on October 26, 1972, and the move finally took place in September 1976.

modification

The school is to be rebuilt and expanded from 2016. This project is estimated to take around four years to build and cost more than 30 million euros. After the renovation, the graphic design vocational college currently located in the branch office on Pragsattel will move back into the main office.
