history
In 1711 the Turkish Pasha Hassan had his summer residence in Gyroda, which was taken by Eugene of Savoy before the siege of the actual Temeschburg fortress. A part of the Austrian army was stationed in Gyroda under the command of Count Pálffy .
During the Josephinische Landesaufnahme under Claudius Florimund Mercy (1723-1725) Girouda is registered as an inhabited place with a church and 24 houses. Mainly rice and mulberry trees were grown on the Ghirodaer Hotter .
The district emerged from the former Colonia Crișan ( German Krizsan colony , Hungarian Krizsántelep ). Ghiroda was a Romanian settlement with an Orthodox church. In 1774 a Romanian school, one of the first in Romania, was also founded here. In 1949 Ghiroda was incorporated into the city of Timișoara and today forms together with Giarmata-Vii its IX. District. There is also a Roman Catholic Church in Ghiroda.
