Giovanni Battista Costaguti

Giovanni Battista Costaguti (also Giambattista Costaguti; * 1636 in Rome ; † March 8, 1704 ibid) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He came from a well-known Genoese family and was the son of Prospero Costaguti, Marchese of Sipicciano and Rocca Elvezia, and his second wife, a Countess Vidman. Giovanni Battista Costaguti's half-brother was Cardinal Vincenzo Costaguti , a later cardinal from the same family was his maternal nephew Baldassare Cenci . He became a cleric and later dean of the Apostolic Chamber

Pope Alexander VIII elevated him to cardinal priest in the consistory of February 13, 1690 . Giovanni Battista Costaguti received the cardinal's hat on February 16 of the same year and on April 10, 1690, San Bernardo alle Terme was awarded to him as the titular church . On July 18, 1690, he was granted the dispensation to receive all ordinations without limitation to specified days and without the prescribed interruptions.

Giovanni Battista Costaguti was a participant in the 1691 conclave , from the Innocent XII. emerged as Pope and opted for the titular church of Sant'Anastasia al Palatino on November 12, 1691 . He took part in the conclave of 1700 , in which Clement XI. was elected Pope.

He was buried in the Roman church of San Carlo ai Catinari .
