Gianaurelio Cuniberti (born April 28, 1970 in Genoa ) is an Italian scientist and university professor specializing in molecular bioelectronics and biosensors as well as material modeling and transport phenomena . Since 2007 he has held the professorship for materials science and nanotechnology at the TU Dresden . In addition to his work as a professor, he heads the Nanobiomaterials department at the Max Bergmann Center for Biomaterials and is the founding director of the Dresden Center for Computational Materials Science (DCMS).

Career

Cuniberti completed the Diploma di Maturità , comparable to the German Abitur, in June 1989 at the Liceo Leonardo da Vinci in Genoa with the highest possible number of points. He then studied physics at the University of Genoa , where he completed his Bachelor and Master of Science with honors in 1994 . In 1997 he did his doctorate with Summa Cum Laude in a joint work between the University of Genoa and the University of Hamburg in Germany.

From 1994 he worked as a visiting researcher at MIT and from 1997 to 1998 he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Genoa. In 1998 he moved to Germany, where he was a visiting scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden until 2002 . From 2001 to 2002 he was awarded the Schloeßmann scholarship of the Max Planck Society .

From 2003 to 2008 Cuniberti was head of the independent research group Molecular Computing of the Volkswagen Foundation at the University of Regensburg . In October 2007 Gianaurelio Cuniberti accepted the professorship for materials science and nanotechnology at the Technical University of Dresden.

Cuniberti is also an honorary professor for electronic engineering at POSTECH (Korea) and at the University of Alabama (USA).

In addition to research, Gianaurelio Cuniberti is interested in music and technology transfer . He is a member of the board of trustees of the Society of Friends of the Staatskapelle Dresden , one of the oldest still active orchestras in the world. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Italian Center, a cooperation initiative between the Technical University of Dresden and the Italian Cultural Institute in Berlin. It deals with scientific and cultural exchange between Italy and Saxony. Furthermore, he is an extraordinary member of the board of trustees of the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Germany, which also deals with the transfer of knowledge and innovation.
