Giancarlo Serenelli

Giancarlo "Gato" Serenelli Pellechia (born July 10, 1981 in Caracas ) is a Venezuelan racing car driver . He was the overall winner of the LATAM Challenge Series three times (2008, 2010 and 2011) .

Career

Serenelli began his motorsport career in karting . He was then active in formula racing. In 1997 he finished second in the Venezuelan Formula Ford 1600. In 2000 and 2002 he won the Venezuelan Formula Ford 2000. At the same time he was still active in karting. In 2001 and 2005 he started in Europe. In 2001 he took part in the Italian Formula Renault and in 2005 competed in four races in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup . He was denied points in the European series.

In 2006, Serenelli made his debut for Re Racing in the Formula Renault 2.0 Panam GP Series , a racing series that had its races mainly held in Mexico . He took part in three races and was 19th in the drivers' championship. In 2007 Serenelli stayed with Re Racing and was runner-up behind Victor Hugo Oliveras with two wins . In 2008 Serenelli competed for Re Racing in the LATAM Challenge Series . He won seven out of sixteen races and secured the championship from André Solano . In the following season Solano and Serenelli dueled again for the overall victory. Solano won five races, Serenelli four. At the end of the season, Serenelli lost to his rival with 318 to 324 points and became runner-up. His team-mate Gerardo Nieto was the driver who had won the most races with six wins that season.

In 2010 Serenelli won five races and was again the overall winner of the LATAM Challenge Series. With 356 to 348 he decided a close title duel against Rodolfo Camarillo for himself. In 2011, Serenelli won the LATAM Challenge Series championship for the third time. He won 7 of 18 races and scored 268 points. This gave him a big lead over his team-mate and runner-up Christofer Ramirez , who had 194 points in the final bill. Serenelli also gained experience in touring cars and competed in the Mexican SEAT Leon Super Copa . There he was third overall with two wins.

At the end of 2011, Serenelli took part in tests of the Auto GP World Series for Ombra Racing . For the 2012 season he decided to switch to the Auto GP World Series, which races mostly in Europe. He started for Ombra Racing. With a fourth place as the best result, he finished twelfth overall. He also took on Venezuela GP Lazarus at the 2012 season of the GP2 Series in part. Serenelli got out of the series after the ninth race weekend due to a shoulder injury that he sustained in the GP2 race at the Hockenheimring , as well as an overlap with the Auto GP. In the overall standings he was 33 without points.

In 2013 Serenelli returned to America. He took part in two races of the LATAM Challenge Series. In addition, Serenelli made his debut for Belardi Auto Racing in 2013 in the Indy Lights . He competed in four races and was tenth in the drivers' championship.
