The Gießgraben is a right tributary of the young Schutter in Upper Bavaria below Wellheim in the district of Eichstätt just beyond the municipal boundary of Rennertshofen .

geography

course

The highest, not constantly pouring source of the Gießgraben is about 520  m above sea level. NN next to Eichstätter Kreisstraße 5, about 600 m northeast of the outskirts of Gammersfeld . From here the water soon runs eastwards through a forest ridge in the southern Franconian Jura and after about 2 km it reaches the valley level of the Wellheimer dry valley dug into it , from where it once again forms an alluvial ditch between the Schutter in the north and the state road 2047 in the south keeps running for so long. At the height of Wellheim- Espenlohe, it passes a peat cut that is now a natural monument. After a total of about 4.2 km, it joins the Schutter from the right in front of the field mill there , just changed to the Rennertshofener district.
