Gila Bend ( O'odham Pima : Hila Wi: n ) is a town in Maricopa County in the US state of Arizona . According to the 2010 census, it has 1,922 inhabitants on an area of 59.1 km² . The population density is 33.5 inhabitants per km². The place owes its name to a nearby 90-degree curve of the Gila River .

The site is located in the southwestern part of Arizona, approximately 82 km (51 miles ) from Phoenix . Interstate 8 runs south of the city and Arizona State Route 85 passes through Gila Bend .
