Gilbert Cosme (born May 25, 1975 in Bayamón , Puerto Rico ) is a wrestler from Puerto Rico. He is better known by his two ring names, El Mesías and Ricky Banderas . In the television program Lucha Underground he appears as the masked wrestler Mil Muertes .

Wrestling career

Cosme first studied computer technology at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico in his native Bayamón. There he was introduced to the basics of wrestling by a previous wrestler from 1996 and began his career as a professional wrestler in 1997, first in independent fights and then in a project of the World Wrestling Federation , which was looking for talent in the Hispanic region.

From 1999 he joined the International Wrestling Association IWA and played the gimmick "El Patriota" Ricky Banderas. The name is a mix of Ricky Martin and Antonio Banderas . He made his first television appearance in the same year at Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). The first successes were winning the IWA tag team title together with Germán Figueroa . Initially used as a face , it became a heel on August 21, 2000 and also changed its gimmick. He became "El Mesías" Ricky Banderas. In 2001 he had a tryout at the World Wrestling Federation and competed in a pay-per-view for Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling (FMW). By 2006 he had won the IWA World Heavyweight Championship six times and the tag team belt three times.

In 2006 he switched to the Mexican doctorate Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA). There he appeared masked as Muerte Cibernética and had a feud with La Parka until he won a mask vs. in Triplemania XIV (2006) . Mask match lost. Then a storyline developed about the leadership of the heel-stable La Secta Cibernetica. It was ended by a coffin match in which Cosme's character was thrown into a volcano at the end. This was timed so that he had several months to compete for the IWA and the Panama Wrestling Crew.

He then returned to the AAA and had the heel gimmick El Mesías there. He then became a main eventer and was the first wrestler to win the AAA Mega Championship , which he later won three more times. He is still active in this league today, but also worked for the World Wrestling Council between 2009 and 2012 .

From 2007 to 2008 he played the character Judas Mesias in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling . After a furious start, he was thwarted by an injury to the Ichia nerve and left his doctorate in 2008. On March 18, 2013, he returned in his role for the pay-per-views TNA One Night Only and Hardcore Justice 2 and was allowed to defeat James Storm and was defeated the next day by the wrestler Abyss

Since 2014 he has played the masked wrestler Mil Muertes in the television series Lucha Underground, a man whose entire family was killed in an earthquake. He had his first feud with Fénix, as a result of which he first died, only to be resurrected by his valet Catrina. In the first season finale, he defeated Prince Puma to become the second Lucha Underground Champion .
