Gilbert Tillmann (born April 7, 1982 ) is a German rider. He celebrated his greatest success by winning the 84th German Jumping Derby .

Career

Tillmann's father runs a riding facility in the Grevenbroich district of Neukirchen and is active as a show jumper up to advanced level. Gilbert Tillmann's older brother Frederic is also a show jumper up to advanced level and works as a trainer for sport horses. Despite this family background, he first played football and only concentrated on riding when he was 12 years old.

Gilbert Tillmann is a farrier and therefore only rides part-time. He competes in jumping competitions up to advanced level.

In 2001 he took over the then seven-year-old Irish gelding Hello Max , who had previously been estimated at 16 years and ran as a school horse. However, since he threw off quite a few riding students, he was considered unfit for riding lessons . After he was used in carnival parades, Hello Max was trained as a jumping horse. With him, Tillmann won around 25 advanced ( S) jumping classes by 2011 and was awarded the Golden Riding Badge . As a young rider he achieved placements at the Preis der Beste and the German Youth Championships.

In 2007 Tillmann competed in the German Jumping Derby for the first time. In this test, which is often referred to as the "most difficult jumping course in the world", he came eleventh with Hello Max ; In addition, he was the Rhenish champion of show jumping. In the same year Gilbert Tillmann was voted Sportsman of the Year by the readers of the Neuss-Grevenbroicher Zeitung .

In 2010 Tillmann tore the reins when he rode the German Jumping Derby with Hello Max , so he could not finish the course. Encouraged by this, both came fourth in this test the following year. As a Rhenish rider, he got the opportunity to compete at the CHIO Aachen in 2010 . Here he came in ninth place in a framework jumping test with Hello Max .

In May 2013 Gilbert Tillmann and Hello Max competed in the jumping derby for the sixth time. Both had to accept four penalty points in normal circulation. But since no other rider was without mistakes, there was a jump-off against the derby winning couple from 2010 - Carsten-Otto Nagel and Lex Lugar . Both riders had one drop each, but Tillmann achieved a faster time, which meant victory in the 84th German Jumping Derby for him. At the award ceremony, Tillmann announced that with this victory he would say goodbye to his now 19-year-old gelding from the sport.

In July 2013 Gilbert Tillmann was awarded the St. Georg plaque for him by the Rhineland Equestrian Association as part of an honoring event organized by the Neuss District Equestrian Association.

Gilbert Tillmann also successfully competed in the German Jumping Derby in the following years. After the gelding Hadjib , who was born in 2006, was injured in the run-up to the 2017 derby, his brother Frederic Tillmann provided him with the gray gelding Claus Dieter, who was born in 2009 . With this he came in second place in the 88th German Jumping Derby.
