Gilles Renne

Gilles Renne (* 1954 in Arles ) is a French guitarist and band leader of modern jazz .

Live and act

Renne is self-taught as a musician and initially influenced by blues and rock music . He played in the Corsican folk rock band Rialzu in the 1970s and took lessons at the Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles . He has appeared with Andy Emler , Rhoda Scott , Dominique di Piazza , Manu Dibango and Souad Massi and can be heard on albums by Emmanuel Bex ( Enfance ), Stefan Patry and Philippe Combelle .

Since 1990 he has led various projects together with Philippe Sellam , in particular the Sellam-Renne African Project , where he worked with Aly Keïta , Linley Marthe and Sonny Troupé. He was also active in the big band Quoi De Neuf Docteur and in the Mister Hyde Quartet . In the No-Spirit group, led by Philippe Sellam , they perform with organist Fred Dupont and drummer Christophe Bras. He also led the group Jazzrunners .

At the La Défense competition he received an award for best guitarist.
