Gillian Russell

Gillian Russell ( Gillian Claire Russell, married Love ; born September 28, 1973 in Saint Andrew Parish ) is a former Jamaican hurdler who specialized in the 100-meter distance . Because of her sprint strength , she was also used in the 4 x 100 meter relay .

At the Junior World Championships she won gold over 100 m hurdles and in the 4 x 100 meter relay both in Plovdiv in 1990 and in Seoul in 1992 .

In 1991 she won the Central American and Caribbean Championships. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and at the World Athletics Championships in 1993 in Stuttgart, she reached the semifinals. In 1995 she was sixth at the World Championships in Gothenburg .

At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, she was eliminated from the 100 m hurdles in the quarter-finals. In the 4 x 100 meter relay, she was used in the run-up and thus contributed to winning the bronze medal for the Jamaican team.

In 1997 she won silver over the 60 m hurdles at the World Indoor Championships in Paris . The following year followed silver at the Central America and Caribbean Games in 1998 in Maracaibo and gold at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur .

In 1999 she won the Central American and Caribbean Championships for the second time and was fourth at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg , but did not get past the quarter-finals at the World Cup in Seville .

Starting for the University of Miami , she was three times in a row NCAA champion over 100 m hurdles (1993-1995) and twice NCAA indoor champion over 60 m hurdles (1992, 1995).
