Giovanni Alberto Badoer , also Gianalberto Badoaro , (born May 12, 1649 in Venice , † May 17, 1714 in Brescia ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was born the son of the Venetian patrician Francesco Badoaro and his wife Elena Michiel. His uncle and godfather Alberto Badoaro , Bishop of Crema , took care of the spiritual training of Giovanni Alberto and in 1663 appointed him canon of his cathedral, he also ordained the young cleric as subdeacon . After his uncle's death in 1677, Giovanni Alberto Badoer went to Padua , where he was ordained a priest by Cardinal Gregorio Barbarigo, who gave him a canonical. 1684 appointed him Doge Luigi Contarini to Primicerius of San Marco . On September 16, 1688 he was appointed Patriarch of Venice and Primate of Dalmatia . He received his episcopal ordination on November 6, 1688 in the Church of San Lorenzo in Venice by Cardinal Gregorio Barbarigo, the Bishop of Padua ; Co- consecrators were Giacomo Vianoli , Bishop of Torcello , and Pietro Leoni , Bishop of Ceneda . There are numerous contemporary reports about the lavish solemn move-in and the taking of ownership between November 22nd and 25th. From 1706 until his death in 1714 he was Bishop of Brescia . Badoer was on May 17, 1706 by Pope Clement XI. elevated to cardinal priest and was assigned the titular church of San Marcello .

Giovanni Alberto Badoer died in Brescia in 1714 of a severe fever that he contracted on a pastoral trip and was buried in the cathedral there.

Considered a very pious man, a process of beatification was opened for him and he was awarded the title of Venerable Servant of God .
