Giovanni Antonio Fabri

Giovanni Antonio Fabri (Polish Jan Antoni Fabri ; * 1652 ; † December 21, 1723 in Warsaw , Kingdom of Poland ) was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and friar of the missionaries of St. Vincent de Paul . He was superior of convents, head of seminaries and visitor of the Order in Poland.

Life

Giovanni Antonio Fabri entered the order in Rome in 1671 . In 1676, after receiving his ordination, he went to Poland. There he was first in Warsaw , then provost in Sambor and from 1686 first head of the new seminary in Przemyśl .

In 1687 Fabri Superior of the convent in Chełmno and thus also provost of the town church of St. Mary and head of the seminary and the town school . In 1692 this was converted into an academic high school through his initiative and was occupied by a lecturer from the University of Kraków . During his time there were also improvements in the interior of the Marienkirche.

In 1695 Antonio Fabri became superior of the Kraków- Stradom convent and head of the religious seminary there. From 1799 he was superior in Wilna (Vilnius). During this time the convent and the church were badly damaged and then rebuilt.

From 1715 Antonio Fabri was the Order's visitor to Poland. Under his leadership, new seminaries were established in Płock (1717), Lublin (1717), Gniezno (1718) and Włocławek (1719), as well as a new convent in Siemiatycze (1719).

Giovanni Antonio Fabri was buried in the Church of the Holy Cross in Warsaw , the center of missionaries in Poland. The grave slab has probably been preserved.
