Giovanni Battista Aostalli (also: Avostalli, Avostalo, Aostalli de Sala, Vostalis ; * around 1510 in Savosa ; † July 30, 1575 in Poděbrady ) was a builder from Ticino who mainly worked in Bohemia .

biography

Giovanni Battista Aostalli came from the Ticino builder family Aostalli . Together with his brothers Antonio, Francesco and Stefano Aostalli and other relatives, he formed an assembly that was active in Prague and other places in Bohemia. In 1541 he had orders at Prague Castle, where he is documented as head of his assembly group for 1548. He carried out other construction work on the construction of St. Vitus Cathedral , the Belvedere pleasure house and the royal hospital on the Hradschin . In 1549 he was entrusted with the construction management of the royal estates east of Prague, the supervision of which was the responsibility of the royal master builders of the Prague Castle (Paolo Stella until 1552, then Hans Tirol and from 1560 Bonifaz Wohlmut ).

Giovanni Battista's main task was the reconstruction of the royal Poděbrady Castle , where it is proven that he had his own building group for 1550. He settled in Poděbrady, bought several properties there and built a manor for himself. He received rewards for his work in 1559 and 1564. It is believed that Ulrico Aostalli was also involved in the work as a consultant or expert, whose presence in Poděbrady is documented in 1568.

At the same time as he was working on the castle, he built some town houses and a hospital in Poděbrady and restored the Gothic parish church, which he is said to have expanded to include the side chapel at his own expense. In Chlumec nad Cidlinou , the old castle was repaired under his direction from 1551–1555.

From 1568–1575 he was in charge of the building extension at Litomyšl Castle , which was overseen by Ulrico Aostalli. He built the gate and the new brewery in Poděbrady in 1572. There is no evidence of his work in the royal castles of Pardubice , Brandýs nad Labem and Lysá nad Labem, which is also attributed to him .

After his death he was buried in the parish church of Poděbrady, which he had renovated. The tomb with a portrait is still preserved.
