Giovanni Francesco Negroni , also Gianfrancesco Negroni or Giovanni Francesco Negrone (born October 3, 1629 in Genoa , † January 1, 1713 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church and Bishop of Faenza .

Life

He was the eldest of the six children of Giovanni Battista Negroni, Senator of the Republic of Genoa , and his wife Placida Gentile. Giovanni Francesco Negroni was a great-uncle of the later Cardinal Giovanni Battista Spinola . He studied at the University of Perugia, where he was to the doctor doctorate . Under the pontificate of Alexander VII he met as governor of Terni (1658), Jesi (1663), Spoleto (1665) and Orvieto (1664) as well as vice- legate in the areas of Romagna , Umbria and Campagna . In 1669 he was a cleric of the Apostolic Chamber and President of Annona , and in 1681 General Treasurer of the Apostolic Chamber.

Pope Innocent XI. created him in the consistory of September 2, 1686 zm Cardinal Deacon , the cardinal's hat and the title Diakonie San Cesareo in Palatio Giovanni Francesco Negroni, on 30 September the same year.

On July 7, 1686 he was elected Bishop of Faenza. He was a legate in Bologna in 1687 and took part in the 1689 conclave , which was elected by Pope Alexander VIII , but had to leave the conclave on October 4, 1689 due to illness. He also took part in the conclave of 1691 , from the Innocent XII. emerged as Pope. On January 2, 1696 he opted for the cardinal class of cardinal priests and the titular church of Santa Maria in Aracoeli . He renounced the Diocese of Faenza on November 11, 1697. Giovanni Francesco Negroni died on New Year's Day 1713 around eight o'clock in the morning in his Roman palace. He was buried in the Jesuit church Santissimo Nome di Gesù .
