Giovanni Malagò

Giovanni Malagò (born March 13, 1959 in Rome ) is an Italian businessman, former futsal player and sports official . Since 2013 he has been President of the Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Italiano .

Life

As a teenager and during his studies, he practiced a variety of sports. As a futsal player, he was Italian champion three times and won the cup four times. He was a member of the Italian national team that took part in the then unofficial World Cup in Brazil. After studying economics in Rome (diploma with distinction), he entered the automobile trade for his father's luxury sedans. In 1997 he became the president of the elite Circolo Canottieri Aniene , with whom he won 5 of the 8 Italian medals at the 2013 World Championships and made Italy the most successful team. In 1997 he organized the race on the occasion of 50 years Ferrari . Since 1998 and 1999 he was responsible for the Italian Open tennis tournament, in 2001 and 2001 for professional basketball at Virtus Roma. 2000 he also became a member of the executive committee of CONI and organized a. a. the 2005 European volleyball championship (and 2010 men's volleyball world championship ) and the 2009 swimming world championships . In 2013 he was voted against the favorite Raffaele Pagnozzi (General Secretary of CONI for ten years), who supported and a. of the football association had been elected President of CONI. He is a sponsor and honorary member of the Auditorium parco della musica and the Italian Leukemia Aid and the Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital . It is seen as a strong signal of the seriousness with which Rome is applying to host the Olympic Games in 2024 .
