Girolamo Pamphilj
Girolamo Pamphilj , also Pamphili or Pamfili (* 1544 in Rome ; † August 11, 1610 ibid) was a cardinal of the Roman Church . He came from the Italian noble family Pamphilj , which was closely associated with the Roman curia .
Life
His father was Pamphilio Pamphilj, who was married to Orazia Mattei . Filippo Neri was one of his closest friends . There is no information about his priestly training or his ecclesiastical career. Girolamo Pamphilj studied law and entered the service of Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini . Pope Gregory XIII (1572–1585) appointed him auditor and later dean of the Rota Romana , the highest papal court of justice.
In the consistory of June 6, 1604 he received the cardinal's hat from Pope Clement VIII and became cardinal priest of the titular church of San Biagio dell'Anello . He took part in the first conclave of 1605 , on which Pope Leo XI. was elected, and shortly afterwards at the second conclave of the same year , from which Paul V emerged as Pope. From 1605 to 1610 he was cardinal vicar of the diocese of Rome .
Girolamo Pamphilj died on August 11, 1610 and was buried in the Roman titular church of Santa Maria in Vallicella .
