Gisbert Richard

Gisbert Richard (born May 10, 1949 in Emstek , Cloppenburg district ) is a German ophthalmologist and university professor .

Life

After graduating from the Clemens-August-Gymnasium in Cloppenburg , Richard studied biochemistry , medicine and psychology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University and the Technical University of Munich from 1967 to 1974 . Since 1975 approved , doctorate he in 1976 at the Munich Technical University Dr. med. In 1978 he became a specialist in ophthalmology and in 1980 senior physician at the Münster University Hospital .

In September 1981 he went to the University Hospital Tübingen as a senior consultant for four years , where he devoted himself to diseases of the posterior segment of the eye. On February 14, 1984 he qualified as a professor for ophthalmology. In 1984 and 1985 he attended advanced training courses in vitreous surgery in New York City , Memphis (Tennessee) , Detroit and Miami .

In October 1985 he became senior physician and C3 professor in the university medicine department at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . There he was head of retinology .

April 1, 1995, he was appointed University of Hamburg as director of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf . From 1997 to 1999 he was Deputy Medical Director of the UKE and Vice Dean of the Medical Faculty. Richard retired on April 1, 2015.

Richard is the editor of several international journals . He has received German, Egyptian, Japanese, Swiss, Greek and US awards.
