Giulio Rinaldi (born February 13, 1935 in Anzio ; † July 16, 2011 there ) was an Italian boxer . He was European light heavyweight professional boxer champion .

Career

Amateur career

Giulio Rinaldi was already very successful as an amateur. He was Italian middleweight champion in 1956 and represented his country at the Melbourne Olympics . There he won in the round of 16 over the Dane Christian Andersen on points. For his next fight against the future Olympic champion Gennady Shatkow from the Soviet Union , he could no longer compete due to an injury. He finished 5th with three other boxers.

Profile career

After the Olympic Games in Melbourne, Giulio Rinaldi became a professional boxer. He fought his first professional fight on March 23, 1957 in Rome , defeating his compatriot Giuliano Bianchi by technical knockout in the 5th round. Further milestones on the way to championship fights were his victories over Artemio Calzavara on January 8, 1959 in Rome and Rocco Mazzola on October 21, 1959 in Rome, against whom he suffered a technical knockout on July 13, 1959 in Rome . He suffered another defeat on November 21, 1959 in Milan from Dieter Wemhöner from Berlin , to whom he lost on points.

Giulio Rinaldi came to his first championship fight on March 8, 1960 in Rome. He fought against Sante Amonti for the Italian light heavyweight championship and won this fight by technical knockout in the 2nd round. In a fight that was considered a qualification for a fight for the EBU European Championship, Giulio Rinaldi defeated the French Germinal Ballarin on June 4, 1960 in Rome after 12 rounds on points. On August 22, 1970 Giulio Rinaldi was in Anzio Italian heavyweight champion by a disqualification victory in the 8th round over Gianfranco Macchia. He lost this title on October 23, 1970 in Rome by a knockout defeat in the 5th round to Domenico Adinolfi . After this defeat he ended his boxer career.

After boxing
