Giuseppe Maria Maniscalco

Giuseppe Maria Maniscalco OFMObs (born June 2, 1783 in Alessandria della Rocca , Kingdom of Sicily , † April 7, 1855 in Caltagirone ) was a Sicilian religious , Minister General of the Franciscan Observants and Bishop of Caltagirone .

Life

He entered the order of the Franciscan Observants and took the name of the order Giuseppe Maria d'Alessandria . After receiving his doctorate theologiae , he was ordained a priest on June 7, 1807 . Then he rose in the order hierarchy and was its vicar general until 1838 . Called to Rome, Pope Gregory XVI appointed him . on March 13, 1838 as Minister General of the Franciscan Observants. At the same time he entered the service of the Curia and was a consultor of various congregations.

King Ferdinand II of Sicily proposed him on May 20, 1844 as Bishop of Avellino and Frigento , which was confirmed by Rome on June 17 of the same year. He was ordained bishop on June 23, 1844 by the Cardinal Bishop of Sabina, Luigi Lambruschini ; Co-consecrators were the Curia Archbishops Camillo Di Pietro and Angelo Antonio Scotti . On July 12, 1844 he became Papal Assistant to the Throne . Pope Pius IX transferred him on April 7, 1854 to the bishopric of Caltagirone, where he died a year later.
