The Glambecker See , also called Glammi by the locals , is one of the city lakes of Neustrelitz in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The natural lake is 12.95 hectares in size and up to 28.09 m deep. It was equipped with a deep ventilation system.
Geology and hydrology
From a geological point of view, the lake is a typical Kesselsee located in a sandy area, which is fed by springs on its south side. It has no above-ground or piped drain, but like the neighboring Zierker See, which is drained above ground through the Kammerkanal to the Woblitzsee , is part of the catchment area of the Havel . An underground runoff to Langen See near Weisdin , as claimed in the city guide from 1965, is physically impossible, because the water level of the long lake is more than 5 meters above that of the Glambeck lake.
Water use
The lake is close to the city center of Neustrelitz. The bathing establishment on its bank functions as the municipal outdoor pool . With its fish population, it is also a fishing lake.
Water body name
The name refers to the former Glambek desert by the lake . The place is mentioned for the first time in 1366 as Glambecke and got its name after the common name of the lake. The adjective glãboky means "deep" in the language of the Slavs who used to live here, which is now called Old Polish .
history
As a picture by Wilhelm Riefstahl shows, the lake used to be surrounded by oaks. Neustrelitz housewives used it to do their laundry until the city got a water pipe. For this purpose there were jetties on its south side and the large city bleach for bleaching the laundry. The villa-like redevelopment of the lake was planned in 1911, but did not take place until the twenties and thirties of the 20th century. Today's public bathing establishment used to be a military bathing establishment.
