Glavatičevo is a place in the Konjic community in the center of Bosnia and Herzegovina . It has belonged to the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina since the Bosnian War and is located in the valley of the Upper Neretva on the left bank of the river, about 30 kilometers southeast of the town of Konjic.
location
The place is located on the largely natural upper reaches of the Neretva, which forms canyons above and below Glavatičevo. A little to the north is the entrance to the Rakitnica Canyon , one of the deepest on the Balkan Peninsula . To the west of Glavatičevo is the Prenj Mountains , in the northeast of the Visočica . Due to its geographical location, the place is a local tourist center especially for water sports enthusiasts and hikers.
Directly south of the place runs the entity border to the Republika Srpska , which largely corresponds to the former front line in the Bosnian war. In the vicinity of the place there are still numerous uncleared minefields in all directions.
In the vicinity of Glavatičevo, the so-called Župa valley, there are numerous Stećci , for example in the necropolis of Ribari about three kilometers north of Glavatičevo.
Infrastructure
The R436 road from Konjic to Kalinovik runs through the village . The section between Odžaci east of Glavatičevo and Kalinovik has not yet been paved (as of 2018).
Two large hydropower plants are planned above Glavatičevo, on the previously natural course of the Neretva. However, due to funding difficulties and protests from residents and conservationists, the plans have been on hold since 2010.
population
According to the 2013 census, Glavatičevo had 194 inhabitants. At the last count before the Bosnian War in 1991, there were 547 inhabitants, almost three times as many, of which 383 described themselves as Bosniaks (70%), 76 as Croats (13.9%) and 70 as Serbs (12.8%). 18 inhabitants counted themselves as Yugoslavs or members of other groups (3.3%).
