As far as possible and customary, SI units are used. Unless otherwise noted, the data given apply to standard conditions .

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate is a phosphoric acid ester of glyceraldehyde . It is an intermediate product of the degradation pathways for glucose in the cell, glycolysis (see also glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase ) and also the Entner-Doudoroff pathway . But the formation of new glucose from pyruvate , the gluconeogenesis , takes place via the intermediate stage of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate. In addition, one molecule of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate represents the net gain in carbon during the CO 2 fixation and reduction in the Calvin cycle of photosynthesis, which can be used to build up hexoses . It is isomeric to dihydroxyacetone phosphate . The isomerization takes place with the triosephosphate isomerase . The synthesis was carried out by Hermann OL Fischer and Erich Baer .
