Godawari ( Nepali गोदावरी ) is a city (municipality) in western Terai Nepal in the Kailali district . It has been the capital of the Sudurpashchim Province since 2018 .
history
The city was created under the name Attariya in 2014 by amalgamating the Village Development Committees Beladevipur , Geta , Malakheti and Sripur .
In the course of the restructuring of the local level and the creation of the Gaunpalikas (rural communities) by amalgamating and abolishing the Village Development Committees on March 10, 2017, the VDC Godawari was incorporated and the city was named after the incorporated VDC.
On September 29, 2018, the previous province no.7 gave itself the current name Sudurpashchim and chose Godawari as the new capital of the province. Until then, Dhangadhi, 20 km away, had been the provincial capital.
geography
The urban area covers 308.63 km². The Mahendra Rajmarg and Mahakali Rajmarg highways cross at the main town of Malakheti.
Residents
At the 2011 census, the VDCs that made up the city had 72,521 residents. After further incorporation in 2017, the population is 78,018.
