Godefroid Bélorgey

Godefroid Bélorgey , born Paul Bélorgey (born November 12, 1880 in Pouilly-en-Auxois , † September 15, 1964 in Scourmont Abbey ) was a French Roman Catholic clergyman, Trappist , abbot and author.

Life

Paul Bélorgey attended the School of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in Dijon . He first studied veterinary medicine in Lyon , went to the Cadre Noir cavalry school in Saumur and became a lieutenant in the 4th Cuirassier Regiment in Cambrai . In 1910 he entered Scourmont Abbey and took the religious name Godefroid (after Gottfried von Amiens, 1066–1115). He was master novice (1919–1932) and prior (1921–1932) in Scourmont and was from 1933 to 1952 (as titular abbot of La Bussière monastery ) auxiliary abbot of Cîteaux monastery . Then he lived in the Trappist Abbey of Caldey until 1955 and in the Trappist Abbey of Chimay until 1964 . Bélorgey was a valued religious writer in the Romance-speaking world.
