The golden gelatinous tear ( Dacrymyces estonicus ) is a type of mushroom from the family of tear fungus relatives (Dacrymycetaceae). Like most other gelatinous tears , it forms gelatinous, yellowish to brown fruiting bodies and grows as a saprobiont on dead, debarked coniferous wood. The species is known from various European countries and is mainly found on conifers , where it fructifies from September to October .

features

Macroscopic features

The golden gelatinous tear has cup-, brain- or wavy-misshapen fruit bodies that look very similar to those of the giant gelatinous tear ( Dacrymyces chrysospermus ). They are gelatinous in texture and have a single diameter of 1–4 mm. The basidiocarpies grow gregariously and merge with one another to form 2–4 cm long structures. They are short-stalked and fresh with a golden yellow, dry orange-brown color.

Microscopic features

The spores of the species are, unlike those of the giant gelatinous tear, broadly elliptical to curved and with 18–26 × 8–12  µm significantly larger than in the latter. They are hyaline to yellowish and when ripe have 7–10 transverse walls from which elliptical, 4–2 µm large conidia will later germinate.

Ecology and phenology

The golden gelatinous tear is a saprobiont that grows on dead, preferably debarked, coniferous wood. The fructification takes place in autumn from September to October.

distribution

The golden gelatinous tear is relatively poorly distributed in Europe and has only been found at a few sites on Corsica , the British Isles , Germany , Estonia and Sweden . It is considered rare in its entire range.
