Goldscheuer is a district of Kehl and lies around nine kilometers south of the city center.

Geographical location

Goldscheuer is located in the Upper Rhine Plain directly on the Rhine in Ortenau in Baden . In the north, Goldscheuer, or the district of Marlen, borders on Sundheim , to the south on the municipality of Neuried (Baden) and to the east on the districts of Willstätt . In the west, the Rhine forms the natural border. Eschau (Bas-Rhin) is located on the western side of the Rhine .

Goldscheuer formed together with Kittersburg and Marlen for centuries a political, but territorially separate, triple community. Goldscheuer itself was first mentioned in a document in 1424.

history

Due to its direct location on the Rhine, Goldscheuer was a village characterized by fishing and gold panning . As a reminder of the gold panning period, which flourished between 1817 and 1866, a gold panning well was built in Goldscheuer. This fountain is located between the historic school building and the town hall of Goldscheuer.

On December 1, 1971 Goldscheuer lost its independence and became part of the city of Kehl through incorporation.

politics

As a result of the municipal reform , Goldscheuer was incorporated into Kehl in 1971 and the office of mayor was created. The incumbent, and thus chairman of the local council , has been Richard Schüler (CDU) since 1971. Before it was incorporated into Kehl, Schüler had been mayor since 1967.

The local elections on May 26, 2019 resulted in the following distribution of seats for the local council:

Church of Mary, Help of Christians

The Catholic parish church Maria, Hilfe der Christians , built in 1961, was to be profaned and sold according to the decision of the diocese of Freiburg im Breisgau from 2005 . It was not until 2010 that these considerations were abandoned after the renovation and reconstruction of the church had been secured by donations and other means. On the west wall of the interior of the church, the graffiti artist Stefan Strumbel from Offenburg is putting a six-meter-high Mary with the Christ child on her arm. The newly designed church has been available for services again since 2011.

anniversary

In 2008 Goldscheuer organized a 725th anniversary celebration with Marlen and Kittersburg, at which the anniversary was celebrated on three different dates.

Goldscheuer's coat of arms shows a golden barn on a green background. The green is supposed to symbolize the Rheinaue. The background of the coat of arms is kept in red.

Sports

The most successful sports club in Goldscheuer are the Sportfreunde Goldscheuer , whose tug-of-war department has achieved several German and international successes. The SF are u. a. Record champions of the DRTV (German Lawn Power Sports and Tug of War Association).

Companies

The mechanical engineering company MAJA-Maschinenfabrik Hermann Schill GmbH & Co. KG has its headquarters in Goldscheuer . Maja is part of the Icelandic Marel group.

At the southern end of the village is the 26.8 hectare intermunicipal business park "Basic", which is jointly maintained by the city of Kehl and the municipality of Neuried. In spring 2016, the industrial park offered space for 18 companies with a total of over 300 employees.

The places Goldscheuer and Marlen are crossed by the state road 75. The bus connections are provided by SWEG (including line 106).

Agriculture

For many decades the cultivation of tobacco has been an important source of income for the farmers in Goldscheuer. Another large source of income is the cultivation of cabbage, which gave rise to the annual sauerkraut festival, popularly known as “Surkruttfeschd”. The cultivation of maize for supplying a biogas plant in the neighboring district has increased significantly. In addition, many residents and small farmers grow asparagus, potatoes and maize as well as various other plants for their own use.

education

Goldscheuer has two primary schools (GS), one in the main town, the other in the Marlen district. The elementary school in Goldscheuer also houses a location for the Kehl-Hanauerland adult education center.
