Gooding is the largest city and the county seat of Gooding County in the US state of Idaho .
location
Gooding is located on the Little Wood River about 20 kilometers west of Shoshone at an altitude of 1,089 meters. The Big Wood River runs north of the city and US Highway 26 south of the city . East of the city is the end of the Black Butte Crater Lava Field .
The city has an area of 3.96 km², of which 3.93 km² is land and 0.03 km² is water.
history
In 1882/83 the Oregon Short Line built a train station on the site of what would later become Gooding, and a post office was added in 1887. Frank R. Gooding , who was governor of the state of Idaho from 1905 to 1909 and who ran sheep on the site of what would later become the city, had an area of 65 hectares parceled out and sold in 1907. November 14, 1907, on which the first parcel was sold, is considered to be the founding date of the place later named after Gooding. In 1911 the first town hall with an office for the mayor and a meeting room for the city council was built as an extension to the existing fire station.

According to the 2010 United States Census , Gooding had 3,567 residents, 1,784 men and 1,783 women. 1156 residents were under 20 years old, 633 were 65 or older.
