Gordon Gray (cardinal)
Gordon Joseph Cardinal Gray (born August 10, 1910 in Edinburgh , Scotland , † July 19, 1993 ibid) was Archbishop of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh .
Life
Gordon Joseph Gray studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Edinburgh and Wonersh . He received on 15 June 1935, the sacrament of Holy Orders , and then worked as a parish pastor in various parishes of the Archdiocese of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh. From 1947 to 1951 he served as rector of the Saint Mary's College in Blair, Aberdeen .
In 1951 Pope Pius XII appointed him . to Archbishop of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh. The episcopal ordination donated him on September 21, 1951 William Cardinal Godfrey ; Co- consecrators were James Donald Scanlan , Bishop of Dunkeld , and Edward Wilson Douglas , Bishop of Motherwell . Gordon Joseph Gray attended the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 . Pope Paul VI took him on April 28, 1969 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Chiara a Vigna Clara in the college of cardinals . Gordon Joseph Cardinal Gray presided over the Scottish Bishops' Conference for many years . He was a Grand Officer of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
He died on July 19, 1993 in Edinburgh and was buried in the crypt of the metropolitan basilica there.
