Gostyń ( German Gostin ) is a village in the powiat Mikołowski in the Silesian Voivodeship in Poland . The Upper Silesian village and the slightly smaller Wyry form the rural community Wyry with around 8,000 inhabitants.

history

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 39 votes, or 6.25% of the valid votes for remaining with Germany and 585 for joining Poland, were cast in Gostin. Since the constituency Pleß, to which the village belonged, had voted with a large majority for Poland, the district Pleß and Gostin were ceded to Poland as Gostyń on June 28, 1922 .

Between 1922 and 1939 the place belonged to the autonomous Silesian Voivodeship . In September 1939 Gostyń was occupied by the German Wehrmacht , in January 1945 by the Red Army and subsequently returned to Poland .

From 1975 to 1998 the region was part of the Katowice Voivodeship .

Culture

Gostyń has two Roman Catholic churches.
