Gottfried Brem

Gottfried Brem (born March 21, 1953 in Rosenheim ) is a German and Austrian veterinarian .

Life

As the son of farmers, Brem attended the Sebastian-Finsterwalder-Gymnasium . After graduating from high school in June 1972, he studied veterinary medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (LMU). In 1976 he became active in the Corps Palatia Munich . Approved as a veterinarian in January 1978 , he worked in a veterinary practice in Prien am Chiemsee . In July 1979 he was promoted to Dr. med. vet. PhD. He then studied animal production at the Faculty of Agriculture and Horticulture at the Technical University of Munich . At the same time, he studied business administration at LMU 1978–1980 . In December 1980 he received the title of Dipl.-Ing. agr. As an academic councilor and senior councilor, he researched for eight years at the Institute for Animal Breeding and Animal Hygiene at the LMU. In June 1985 he completed his habilitation in animal breeding and domestic animal genetics. He became a specialist veterinarian in breeding hygiene (1992), animal breeding (1995), laboratory animal science (1996) and animal breeding and biotechnology (2000). After receiving offers from the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel , the LMU, the University of Veterinary Medicine Hanover and the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna , he was full professor for molecular animal breeding at the veterinary faculty of the LMU for six years. From October 1, 1991, he was also acting head of the chair for animal breeding and agriculture and the teaching and research facilities of the veterinary faculty of the LMU. On October 1, 1993, he became head of the Institute for Animal Breeding and Genetics at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna. From April 1st, 1994 to December 31st, 2002 he was department head in the inter-university department for agrobiotechnology in Tulln . From 1995 to 2005 he headed the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for immuno-, cyto- and molecular genetic research in Vienna.

Several of his academic students have been appointed professors in the fields of molecular genetics, reproductive biotechnology, and veterinary medicine, among others. a. Bernhard Aigner, Urban Besenfelder, Bertram Brenig , Mathias Müller and Eckhard Wolf.
