Gottfried Hofer
Gottfried Hofer (born March 27, 1858 in Bozen , † November 20, 1932 in Berlin ) was an Austrian painter .
life and work
Gottfried Hofer was born in 1858 as the son of the Bolzano confectioner Alois Hofer and Therese. Ribeser born in Bolzano. From 1876 Hofer studied painting with Ludwig von Löfftz in Munich . Hofer then traveled to Italy and France, and in Rome (1895 to 1910) Hofer joined the German Romans . After 1910 Hofer lived in Berlin, but returned regularly to Bolzano, where, among other things, he made a large ceiling fresco in the city council chamber of the new city hall . In addition to landscapes, Hofer also painted portraits of personalities of his time, whom he met in Berlin or his summer resorts Madonna di Campiglio and Sils in the Engadin / Segl . In 1893, for example, he painted Chancellor Otto von Bismarck with other personalities.
Hofer was buried in Sils.
