Gottfried II. (Eppstein)

Gottfried II. Von Eppstein (* approx. 1199 ; † between March 15, 1272 and September 30, 1278 , buried in St. Stephan (Mainz) ) is considered the founder of the younger line of the Eppstein family . The Eppsteiners, who succeeded in establishing one of the most important aristocratic rule in Hesse in the late Middle Ages and who were wealthy in Spessart, Taunus and Wetterau as early as 1200, were noble lords and in the 13th century had four archbishops and electors from Mainz .

Life

Gottfried II was the son of Gottfried I von Eppstein and his wife Isalda von Wied . It is first mentioned in 1223.

He was married to Elisabeth von Isenburg-Cleeberg . The following children resulted from this marriage:
