Gottfried W. Ehrenstein

Gottfried Wilhelm Ehrenstein (born October 4, 1937 in Danzig ) is a professor of plastics technology .

Life

Ehrenstein studied general mechanical engineering at the TH Hannover and did his doctorate under Alexander Matting . He then worked for ten years in application technology thermoplastics at BASF . At the same time he worked as a lecturer at the University of Karlsruhe .

After completing his habilitation in 1976, he was appointed to the chair for materials science / plastics at the University of Kassel in 1977 . From 1987 to 1992 he was part of the director of the Süddeutsche Kunststoff-Zentrum (SKZ) in Würzburg . In 1989 he took over the newly founded chair for plastics technology (LKT) at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . The research there he concentrated u. a. on the subjects of thermoplastic processing, composite materials , construction, connection technology and tribology . He publishes in particular in the field of materials technology for plastics and plastics-appropriate construction.

Ehrenstein retired on March 31, 2006. Ernst Schmachtenberg was appointed as his successor with effect from April 1, 2006 . Founder of the Scientific Working Group on Plastics Technology (WAK).
