Gotthard August von Helffreich ( Russian Богда́н Бори́сович Гельфре́йх, Bogdán Boríssowitsch Gel'fréjch ; * January 16 jul. / January 27,  1776 greg. In Purgel ; † November 12 jul. / November 24,  1843 greg. In Reval ) was a Russian lieutenant general .

Life

Origin and family

He came from the German-Baltic noble family Helffreich . His parents were the Russian major Bernhard Johann von Helffreich (1712–1782) and Auguste Maria geb. von Staal adH Hähl (1731–1776).

He married Charlotte Wilhelmine von Stiernhjelm (1802–1872) in 1823. The marriage resulted in 10 children, including the Russian infantry general Alexander von Helffreich (1826–1908)

Career

Helffreich joined in 1790 as a soldier to guard the Imperial Russian Army one. In 1796 he was a captain in the Army Infantry in the North Caucasus and in 1804 was promoted to lieutenant colonel . In 1805 he took part in the Battle of Austerlitz with the Fanagorian Grenadier Regiment . In 1806 he became the commander of this regiment. From 1806 to 1812 he was in the Moldau Army in the war on the Danube, where he received the Order of St. George IV. Class in 1807 . After he was promoted to colonel in the meantime , he was promoted to major general in 1810 and in 1811 became chief of the Estonian infantry regiment. In 1812 he became commander of the avant-garde of the " Wittgenstein " corps , then commander of the 2nd Brigade of the 14th Infantry Division. He distinguished himself at Kljasticy and received the Order of St. George III for his work in front of Polock . Class. Afterwards he was commander of the avant-garde under General Steinheil and commanded the 14th Infantry Division from 1812 to 1814, including in the battle of Smoljany . He rose to lieutenant general in 1813 and blocked Kehl in 1814 , then took part in all the battles of the wars of liberation in France . In 1819 he was then commander of the 1st Infantry Division and was awarded in 1823 for his war wounds to leave .

Helffreich was the owner of the Loal and Röa estates in Estonia .
