Gotthard Kerkring
Gotthard Kerkring (* 1639 in Lübeck ; † June 16, 1705 there ) was mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.
Life
Gotthard Kerkring came from the old Lübeck council family Kerckring . He was great-grandson of Councilor Hinrich Kerckring . He enrolled at the University of Rostock at Easter 1652 . He completed his studies at the University of Basel and only returned to his hometown after a subsequent grand tour . He became a member of the circle society in 1669 . He was elected to the city council in 1680 and appointed mayor there in 1697 .
epitaph
His epitaph in Lübeck's Marienkirche with a Latin inscription has been preserved and honors him as Pater Patriae based on the honorary title of the Roman emperors since Augustus . It was created in 1707 by the Lübeck sculptor Hans Freese .
