Gottlob Friedrich Lipps (born August 6, 1865 in Albersweiler ; † March 9, 1931 in Zurich ) was a philosopher and psychologist .

Life

The half-brother of the philosopher and psychologist Theodor Lipps attended grammar school in Zweibrücken and studied mathematics, physics, philosophy and psychology from 1883 to 1887, first in Leipzig with Wilhelm Wundt , then also in Munich. After he had passed the examination for candidates for the higher education authority, he received his doctorate in 1888 at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Leipzig . He then worked as a teacher at the grammar school in Hagenau and from 1893 to 1902 at the secondary school in Strasbourg . From April 5, 1902, he was a senior teacher for mathematics and physics on the college of the newly established Königin-Carola-Gymnasium in Leipzig. In 1904 he qualified as a professor at the University of Leipzig, where he subsequently received a private lectureship. From 1909 to 1911 he was an associate professor of philosophy at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Leipzig. In 1911 he was appointed full professor of philosophy and education and director of the Institute of Psychology at the University of Zurich . He dealt with psychophysics and statistical and experimental methodology.
