Gottschalk Eduard Guhrauer

Gottschalk Eduard Guhrauer (born May 15, 1809 in Bojanowo (Posen), † January 5, 1854 in Breslau ) was a literary historian .

Guhrauer studied philosophy and philology in Breslau and Berlin , where he became a teacher at the Cologne High School in 1837. Already during his university studies (1831), when he was working on a prize- winning paper on Leibniz 's merits, he was guided towards studying the writings of Leibniz, and in 1836 he went to Hanover to use Leibniz's handwritten estate to critically examine the life and writings of the great scholar .

For the same purpose he stayed in Paris in 1838 and 1839. In 1841 he became curator of the royal and university library in Wroclaw, completed his habilitation there in 1842 as a private lecturer in literary history, was appointed professor in 1843 and died on January 5, 1854.

He wrote:

  • Mémoire sur le Projet de Leibnitz Relatif à l'Expedition d'Egypte Proposé à Louis XIV. En 1672 (Paris 1839);
  • Kur-Mainz in the epoch of 1672 (Hamburg 1839, 2 vols.);
  • Lessing's education of the human race, explained critically and philosophically (Berlin 1841);
  • The Heptaplomeres by Jean Bodin (Berlin 1841);
  • GW v. Leibniz, a biography (Breslau 1842, 2 vols .; supplements 1846);
  • Jungius and his age (Stuttgart 1850);
  • The prophecy of Lehnin . A monograph (Breslau 1850).

He also edited Leibniz's German writings (Berlin 1838 to 1840, 2 vols.) And Goethe's correspondence with Knebel (Leipzig 1851, 2 vols.), And from 1835 onwards he made numerous literary-historical articles for magazines and collected works. Finally Guhrauer took over the completion of Danzel's work on Lessing (Leipzig 1853, vol. 2).
