Gounfara is a village in the Doguérawa rural community in Niger .

The village, led by a traditional local chief ( chef traditionnel ), is located in the Maggia valley , about 25 kilometers northeast of Doguérawa, the capital of the rural community of the same name, which belongs to the Malbaza department in the Tahoua region. The larger villages in the vicinity of Gounfara include Kawara, around ten kilometers away, in the southwest and Tama, around twelve kilometers away, in the northeast.

At the 2012 census, Gounfara had 6404 inhabitants who lived in 1146 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 4,875 in 822 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 3,779 in 592 households.

In Gounfara onions and cowpeas grown. There is a Center de Santé Intégré (CSI), a health center in the village that was responsible for the care of almost 44,000 people in 2015. With the establishment of a health center in the neighboring village of Kawara in the following year, the responsibility of the CSI in Gounfara was reduced to around 21,000 people. The region was repeated by cholera - epidemic affected. In 2012, Gounfara CSI treated 73 cholera patients, four of whom died of the disease. After a meningitis epidemic in 2015 with 358 deaths nationwide, thousands of people were vaccinated against the disease in the following year, with Gounfara being one of the centers of action of the Ministry of Health with over 13,000 vaccinations, along with Koutoukalé , Malbaza and Niamey .
