The Gröditzer Skala , in Upper Sorbian Hrodźišćanska skała , is a rocky valley and nature reserve of the same name with an area of 39 hectares. It extends along the Löbauer water from the Weißenberg district Gröditz to the other districts Weicha and Wuischke . The name is derived from the neighboring village of Gröditz and the Sorbian word skała (German " Skala ") for "single rock" or "steep rock valley".

geology

The Löbauer water cut deeply into the North Lusatian Grauwacken during the Elster Ice Age and formed today's relief.

ecology

The existing north and south slopes as well as the Löbauer water in the scale form a comparatively tight network of different habitats in a very small space. There is deciduous forest with sessile oak , hornbeam , common ash and maple . Especially on the south-facing slopes are mountain and Norway maple and lime trees in front. Other plant species with occurrences in the Gröditzer Skala are: mountain elm , bracken , sweet spurge , forest jingle and the large-flowered foxglove .
