The Lasker Auenwald , in Upper Sorbian Łazkowski niwowy lěs , is a nature reserve in the municipality of Ralbitz-Rosenthal in the East Saxon district of Bautzen . It is located near Laske in the heart of the Sorbian settlement area. The 29 hectare southern part of the forest has been protected since 1961.

The floodplain forest represents the last natural section of the Klosterwasseraue . While its forests were generally cleared in the course of the Middle Ages and the floodplain is mostly used for agriculture today, this part was the only one spared from reclamation. The original oak-hornbeam floodplain forest can still be found here today , with numerous streams running through it. Parts of the forest are under water almost all year round.

In 1970/71, the requirements of both the biotope and the neighboring land users were met with the construction of an overflow structure, a floodwater and a dike. In this way, the episodic floods from the monastery water when the snow melts or after heavy rainfall are guaranteed without endangering the adjacent usable areas through flooding.

In addition to the typical pedunculate oaks and beeches and other common species such as winter linden , white elm , sycamore maple and black alder, there are z. B. Summer linden , wood anemone , high cowslip and woodruff . In the hollows of the alluvial forest grow u. a. Water feather , marsh marigold , water sword lily etc.

In addition to various species of snails and small mussels, the floodplain forest is home to a large number of birds. These include golden oriole , great spotted woodpecker , black woodpecker , kingfisher , tawny owl , red kite , nuthatch , garden warbler, etc.
