Brilliant acid green BS , also known as green S , is a triphenylmethane dye that is used as a food coloring (E 142).
properties
Green S is a moderately lightfast, heat-resistant, slightly alkali-resistant and acid-resistant powder which, with its green color (λ max 632 nm), dissolves well in water.
use
It is used to color food (canned peas) and confectionery (peppermint color) as well as beverages, cosmetics and wool, leather and paper.
It is banned as a food additive in the United States , Canada , Japan, and Norway , although the body excretes it unchanged.
toxicology
Brilliant acid green is practically not absorbed by the intestine and excreted within 7 hours. In 2001 the EU Commission set a permitted daily dose of 5 mg / kg body weight.
