history

At the end of the 18th century, a small scattered settlement was built on the wooden path leading from the back corner to Taubenberg.

After the first quarries were built on the northern slope of Taubenberg in 1850 , the residential area known as Kummerberg was expanded to the south. The stone crusher settlement was later named Grünhut . In 1872 the Oberoderwitz – Wilthen railway line was laid, which cut through Grünhut in the north. At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century there was a brisk quarry to the south and west of Grünhut, which later shifted to the room ax to the south-east. After the fall of the Wall, the upper ax quarry was shut down as the last quarry near Grünhut.

Grünhut was always part of the Taubenheim community and was incorporated into Sohland in 1994. The administration and farm building of the last quarry was converted into the “Am Zimmerbeil” mountain chalet in 1997.

Administrative affiliation

Townscape

Grünhut consists mainly of stone crusher houses on both sides of the village street. In the northern part, a three-sided courtyard and some cottages have been preserved in front of the level crossing, which make up the oldest part of the settlement. To the southeast, in the middle of the forest around a quarry lake, is the Zimmerbeil group of houses with the “Am Zimmerbeil” mountain chalet. A parking lot has been set up on the site of the lower Zimmerbeilbruch.

In the forest south of Grünhut there is the fairy tale meadow, over which the green marked hiking trail leads from Sohland via Grünhut to Taubenberg.
