José de Medeiros Leite (born November 16, 1898 in Mossoró , Rio Grande do Norte , † March 6, 1977 ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Oliveira .

Life

José de Medeiros Leite was ordained a priest on May 29, 1924 .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on August 14, 1945 as the first bishop of the newly established Diocese of Oliveira . The Archbishop of Belo Horizonte , Antônio dos Santos Cabral , donated him episcopal ordination on October 28 of the same year . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Uberaba , Alexandre Gonçalves do Amaral , and the Bishop of Mossoró , João Batista Portocarrero Costa .

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.
